Who’s your favourite actor?

I bet you would struggle to choose just one. Maybe even give up and name three.

But could you name more than one choreographer? Would you have the same struggle when choosing your favourite dancer?

The UK’s dance scene is a vast tapestry of styles and international influences, and yet it’s often hidden in the back pages of newspapers and niche arts magazines. Even at school, compared to drama and music it’s less likely to be taught as a GCSE.

Like Nobody’s Watching (a riff off of ‘dance like nobody’s watching’), aims to change this. To bring dance back into the cultural zeitgeist of the UK, open up its doors in an accessible way, shine a light on the amazing choreographers, dance companies and dancers touring today and, most importantly, encourage you to go and explore your local dance scene.

Let’s put dance back on the map.

A pinch-me moment! Seeing Swan Lake in Rome — July 2024

Hi I’m Beatrice, an aspiring dance critic and ballet nut on a mission to get more people watching dance.

I’ve worked in the dance world for over five years and have seen first hand the struggle even larger dance companies have in getting people to watch their work. Commuting through the West End, it’s hard to escape the fact that while most theatre shows will run for months on end, most dance companies will tour to a venue for just a couple of shows — WILD!

As well as being a Marianela Nuñez fangirl (see above), my love of dance spreads far and wide. I will happily watch any dance form and love learning new styles, from 18th century country dancing to salsa (I’m at 17 styles and counting). I’m also a history grad with a growing collection of vintage dance books, and look forward to diving into the history of dance with you all as I educate myself on this expansive art form.

But ballet will always be my first love. In 2024, my friend and I embarked on a life long Swan Lake tour (we saw five different productions that year) which even took us to Europe (see left). Prepare for many more (international?!) dance adventures to grace the pages of this site in the coming years.
